-Southside was chosen by Newsweek as one of the 1000 best public schools in America seven consecutive times.
- Southside received the Siemens Award for their AP scores in 2007. Southside was the only school in
Arkansas to earn this award.
-The 2010 Southside senior class was awarded $5,200,000 in scholarships.
- Southside has 4 National Merit Semi-finalists for 2009-10.
- Southside has 1 National Achievement Scholarship Program Semi-finalist.
- Southside is a three time winner in the U. S. Department of Education's "School Recognition
Program" (only 29 schools in the U. S. have been recognized three times).
- 22.9 average composite ACT score (National average is 21.1 and Arkansas average is 20.3).
- 56% of students taking AP courses scored 3 or better on the Advanced Placement tests.
- Southside sports teams have won 106 conference championships and 64 state championships since 1963. We have been runners-up 42 times. In the last 25 years, since 1985, Southside has won 50 State
Championships and Runner-up 41 times.
- Southside’s End of Course Literacy, Geometry, and Biology scores are among the highest in the region and in the United States.
- Southside was a co-recipient, along with Northside High School, of the 7A McDonald's State Sportsmanship Award. Southside has won this award 6 times.
- Southside was one of eight Arkansas schools recognized by NORMES as a Best Practices School by
Governor Mike Beebe.
- Southside was one of 17 Arkansas schools awarded the Arkansas 2008 College Readiness Award by ACT.
- Southside has won the Regional Science Bowl Championship for five consecutive years.
- Interesting fact: the Southside Confederettes Volleyball Team has made it to the semi finals of the state tournament for 16 straight years. In that time they have won 7 state championships and 4 Runner-ups. The Track team just won its 3rd consecutive State Championship. The Football team has won 7 State
Championship's and 5 Runner-ups in the last 25 years. Wow!!!
Facts about the Southside Band.
- The Southside Band has provided music for The United Way Kick-Off Breakfast, The Fort Smith Classroom Teachers Association Golden Apple Banquet, Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies at the National Cemetery, Veteran’s Day Ceremonies at numerous elementary schools, Representatives of the U. S. Marshall’s Museum, the FUMC Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper to benefit Darby Junior High, the Fort Smith Chorale’s Spring Concert, the Arkansas Tourism Bureau Convention, a concert at the Arkansas Bandmasters Convention with the Dallas Brass, a clinic performing new music materials with the Dallas Brass, exhibitions at the Dale Bumpers Marching Contest in Charleston, the Fort Smith Public Library Open House, the Fort Smith Public Schools District-wide Back to School Meeting, Paint the Park Pink Breast Cancer Awareness, for the Sisters of St. Scholastica, Arkansas Counselors Convention, Veteran’s Cele- bration at Golden Corral, and many other events. The band was also featured in a commercial for the Arkansas Challenge Scholarship in 2009.
- The Southside band has invited representatives from the Clearing House, the Trolley Museum, St. Edward NICU, and US Marines Toys for Tots to our concerts to inform our audiences about their endeavors.
- The 2010 Senior Band Class earned over $2,000,000 in scholarships.- The Band Senior Class has an average ACT score of 27.1.- The Southside Band has earned the ASBOA Sweepstakes Award each year for the last 33 years.
- The Southside Band had 535 students earn places in the all-region band and 218 students earn places in the all-state band over the last 8 years. That is more than any other school over the same period of time. That is an average of 28 all-staters and 68 all-region members per year.
- Since 2000 Southside Band students have earned over 3000 medals at Solo and Ensemble
Competition.
